Road trips to take this winter

 Winters are best to plan a road trip. No rains and no extreme sun, the weather is just pleasant and comforting. Though hill stations might not be a good option due to heavy snowfalls and roadblocks. There are few road trips which are ideal for winters:

  1. Delhi to Mandwa

Distance: 232Km (5hours)

Road condition: Good

Mandawa is a town in Shekhawati region in Rajasthan. It’s known for its forts and Havelis. This town is also referred to as an “open art gallery” as most of the Havelis have intricately painted walls. It’s the kind of town you’d love to walk absorbing the rich culture and art.

Attractions: Dunlord fort, Goenka double haveli, Churu fort and Murmuria Haveli

  1. Mumbai to Rann of Kutch

Distance: 932kms (16hrs)

Road condition: Good

Rann of Kutch is a salt marsh located in the Thar desert in Gujarat. Mumbai Gujarat highway is a bliss for people who love to ride. You can either stop over at Ahmedabad, Vadodara or Viramgam. You’ll enjoy the view of windmills riding through Viramgam. You’ll need a permission letter from DSP at Dhordo. Do not miss the sunset at Rann of Kutch.

Attractions: Weaves of the Kharapat Rabari community & the amazing bead work done by the Mirs of Dharada. Sun Temple of Modera, Rani ka Vav (UNESCO site), Vaniyavad and Saraf Bazaar for jewelry, handicrafts, and artifacts.

  1. Bengaluru-Munnar

Distance: 478 km (10hrs)

Road condition: Good

Munnar is a hill station located in Idukki district of Kerala. This route has ghats and is advisable for experienced drivers. A pleasant drive through the Tea and coffee plantations in Munnar.

Attractions: Wildlife sanctuary, Mountain biking, Trekking, Lakkam waterfalls, Kundala dam (Asia’s first arch dam), Top station (Border between Tamil Nadu and Kerala)

  1. Kolkata-Pelling

Distance: 691 km

Road Condition: Moderate

Located at the near the Mount Khangchendzonga, Pelling is a small northeastern town in Sikkim. Some of the patches on the road are repaired, but there might be some patches where the road condition might be bad.

Attractions: Kanchenjunga falls, Pemayangtse Gompa, Khechepalri Lake, Sangacholing Monastery, Sewaro rock garden.

  1. Chennai-Puducherry

Distance: 181 km

Road condition: Good

Pondicherry was a French settlement until 1954 and is now one of the union territories. As it’s going to be a coastal route, you will witness beautiful scenery and the Bay of Bengal. This ride is not a long compared to others and it’s totally worth it.

Attractions: Rock beach, Puducherry museum, Basilica of the scared heart of Jesus, Immaculate Conception cathedral, Old light house.
